opera. theatre. music.
Two days and twenty hours in a car together was all it took for singers Georgia Jamieson Emms and Robert Tucker to come up with their latest venture: the Marlborough Opera Festival.
Robert and Georgia first met in the New Zealand Youth Choir in 1999. Not long after leaving the choir, they were cast as the ill-fated lovers Fiordiligi and Guglielmo in Opera Otago’s Cosi fan tutte directed by Jacqueline Coats and conducted by Holly Mathieson. Their careers took them to Europe and home again.
Robert and Georgia were both recently cast in NZ Opera’s The Unruly Tourists, a ground-breaking New Zealand-written production which was sadly thwarted by Covid-19 in early 2022. And it was out of this disappointment, and the afore-mentioned twenty hours in a car, that the Marlborough Opera Festival was born.
